Business Challenge: How do you build a high performance culture and use employee engagement techniques to measure success ?

Your Homes Newcastle (YHN) is an Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO) responsible for managing council homes in the local community. Managing around 30,000 homes, they are the integral link between the community, the council and the Government and support Newcastle City Council in meeting the Decent Homes standard.

YHN holds the accredited Investors in People (IIP) award, and has received a 3-star rating excellent and holds a range of Charter Mark and Customer Service Excellence Awards. To bolster high-performance, YHN were looking for a partner who could help them integrate the staff survey into other organisational development initiatives and measure employee wellbeing.

Right Management worked with YHN to develop a comprehensive understanding of their organisation and to determine the key measurement outcomes they required from the staff survey. As a result, we designed a bespoke survey for over 800 staff. This was supported by a targeted communications strategy to drive a high response rate.

70% of employees took part in the survey and results were provided at an organisational and business level.

YHN were able to identify key areas for improvement in the longer term and some quick wins prior to the survey results being communicated to all staff. The initiative has enabled employees to become involved in the process and witness for themselves YHN’s commitment to improve their working conditions, engagement and YHN’s overall organisational performance.
